ARTICLE SHOWCASE
THE BLUE AND GOLD
Writing has always been a passion of mine, and I joined the SMU editorial soon after starting university. I have authored multiple articles in the Lifestyle and Campus categories for The Blue and Gold.
MY POWAI
Before SMU, I had already begun my writing journey by authoring articles for a local magazine in Mumbai, India - called my Powai. The articles I wrote were a take on a young individual's life in this fast-paced neighborhood, and the transition from a child to a youth.

COMPERING FOR EVENTS
Authored a poem for a high-school event: Mindscape, promoting the message of inner beauty over outer complexion. Compered and narrated the poetry for the event.
She had realised it from the very start,
The deformity on her face had played its part,
And adding to that she had a brown hue,
She had a dark complexion, everybody knew,
Catcalls and yells rose behind her,
But she did not let the anger stir, Instead she stood, with shoulders upright,
And walked the path with pride.
She had been spurned since the day her cries filled the air,
Distress and hardship had seized her in its lair,
Her mother, her kin, her only family had passed away,
Leaving her, a baby, lonely and astray,
Now she had grown up to be,
The ugliest girl a world could see,
But she stood with shoulders upright,
And walked the path with pride.

And yet she was beautiful, beautiful within, Let me ask you – Was it a sin?
To be born with a syndrome,
To be crafted by the Almighty, from the heaven dome?
So she knew this all along,
And she knew that He could never be wrong,
And she stood with shoulders upright,
And walked the path with pride.
The Ugly Beauty
Piercing looks and stares,
Scornful remarks and glares,
They were thrown her way, with full force,
Challenging her to stay the course,
Life tested her to the limit,
Barriers emerged from the deepest pits,
But she stood, with shoulders upright,
And walked the path with pride.
Yes, her nose was flat and broad,
Her visage was mangled and distraught,
Her eyes were protruding and bulging out,
Her lips were drawn in a crooked pout,
A deep scar ran across her face,
She was looked down upon in every place,
But, she stood with shoulders upright,
And walked the path with pride.
But there was, there was something about her eyes,
A twinkle in them, a spark that ignites,
There was the gentleness and a fiery spirit at the same time,
Showing that it had never been an easy climb,
She met the other grunts and disdainful sneers,
With a smile playing on her lips, she faced her peers,
And she stood with shoulders upright,
And walked the path with pride.
Humankind must learn to understand, the time is ripe,
It must learn to welcome with open arms – every kind and every type,
It must nurture and care – and remove every inkling of doubt,
To recognise the beauty within and not the beauty without.
Let’s celebrate every aspect of human society,
Where everybody is empowered to feel mighty,
And then we will be able to stand with shoulders upright,
And walk the path with pride.
